Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailas Shinde on Tuesday unveiled the Consumer Textile Recycling Pilot Project, initiated by the Ministry of Textiles, during a meeting with housing society representatives.

Union Ministry of Textiles Director Tapan Kumar Raut praised Navi Mumbai's ongoing cleanliness efforts and proactive stance in innovative cleanliness activities, making it an ideal location for this project.

This initiative will involve the Central Clothing Committee, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and various NGOs with organized clothes collection at the society level.

Navi Mumbai's waste is categorized into wet, dry, and household hazardous. With this pilot project, discarded clothes will be separately classified and recycled.

A survey is being conducted to emphasize the potential reuse and recycling of discarded clothes.

The '3 R' centres concept at 94 locations allows citizens to donate unused items, including clothes, for others to use. A new recycling hall is also planned for future implementation. Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar sought full cooperation from society office bearers to ensure the project's success.
