The flood situation in Assam turned dire on Monday as over 6.44 lakh people in 19 districts were affected, according to an official bulletin.

The Brahmaputra, along with seven other rivers, surpassed danger levels, breaching its highest flood mark at Nematighat in Jorhat district.

Multiple agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, army, air force, and local administration, have been mobilized for rescue operations, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin stated.

Currently, 6,44,128 people are grappling with the deluge. Districts including Kamrup, Golaghat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon, and others have been heavily inundated by floodwaters.

This calamity added another fatality to the toll, bringing it to 45, with one more person reported missing.

Lakhimpur district remained the worst hit with 1,43,983 affected people, followed by Dhemaji with 1,01,333, and Cachar with 66,195 individuals in distress.

Around 8,142 displaced individuals are currently sheltering in 72 relief camps, supported by 64 relief distribution centers.

Rescue operations are in full swing. In Dhemaji, nine individuals were airlifted by air force helicopters while army and paramilitary personnel conducted rescues in Tinsukia. Additionally, 1,293 people and 1,952 animals were saved using 64 boats.

The primary rivers exceeding danger levels include Brahmaputra (Tezpur), Subansiri (Badatighat), Dikhou (Sivasagar), and others.

Infrastructure damages, including embankments, roads, and bridges, have been reported across the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma noted that heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh has critically worsened Assam's flood situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have assured complete support in managing the crisis, Sarma mentioned in a press conference held in Guwahati.
