A bridge caved in at Kishanganj district on Thursday, marking the fourth such incident in Bihar in just over a week, according to officials.

The bridge, located in Bahadurganj block, was 70 meters long and 12 meters wide, confirmed District Magistrate Tushar Singla.

"The bridge, constructed in 2011 over Madiya—a small tributary connecting Kankai river to Mahananda—collapsed due to a sudden rise in water level from heavy rainfall in Nepal's catchment area. One of the pillars couldn't withstand the strong current," Singla explained.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, he added. Barricading has been set up at both ends of the bridge to prevent movement while repair work is underway.

Last week, three bridge collapses were reported from Araria, Siwan, and Araria districts. In recent years, multiple similar incidents have occurred across the state, raising serious questions about the quality of public infrastructure works.
