The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded the resignation of Lt Governor VK Saxena on Monday, citing his alleged role in the unlawful felling of 1,100 trees within Delhi's ridge area.

According to AAP senior leader and Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, the trees were felled without proper authorization following the LG's visit on February 3.

While the LG office has yet to respond to these allegations, Bharadwaj insists that Saxena attempted to shift the blame and misled the Supreme Court, which ultimately exposed the truth.

He emphasized that Saxena should resign on moral grounds without any delay.

In a recent development, the Supreme Court has requested a clear and comprehensive statement from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) vice chairman regarding whether the trees were cut on the LG's orders.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that the trees were felled in the southern Ridge's Satbari area to facilitate the construction of a road linking Chhattarpur and the South Asian University.

The Supreme Court expressed its shock over the fact that the trees were cut despite the lack of its permission.

Bharadwaj pointed out that it was an NGO that brought the issue to light, compelling the authorities to respond.

The DDA had approached the Supreme Court in March seeking permission to fell the trees; however, the request was denied. In May, the NGO informed the court that the trees had been felled back in February.

Bharadwaj further alleged that the trees were cut following a verbal order from the LG, with no written permission or opposition from DDA officers.
