Diplomatic Tensions: E3 Countries Push for Ukraine Ceasefire
Ambassadors from France, Germany, and Britain met Russia's deputy foreign minister to condemn the war escalation in Ukraine. Despite accusations from Russia of Western destructive policies, European leaders back a ceasefire and legal security guarantees for Ukraine while considering Trump's proposals for peace.
Diplomatic tensions have escalated as ambassadors from France, Germany, and Britain met with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister in Moscow. The Western diplomats condemned the latest warfare escalation in Ukraine and reiterated their support for U.S.- and European-backed negotiations aimed at peace.
The meeting follows recent talks in London, where European leaders rallied behind Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's ceasefire call. In contrast, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin accused these countries of fomenting war through destructive policies while noting that support for Kyiv was perpetuating the conflict.
European leaders have proposed security guarantees for Ukraine, including a potential multinational force. While motivated by peace, they insist Russian financial assets remain frozen until reparations for war damages are secured. Meanwhile, Putin signals skepticism towards European intermediaries, as he considers President Trump's peace proposals a more viable route.
