LePage's Bid to Reclaim Maine: A Battleground for U.S. House Control

Paul LePage, a former governor of Maine, secured the Republican nomination to contest Maine's 2nd Congressional District, according to U.S. media projections. The outcome of this race is critical as it could determine the control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the upcoming November elections.

Known for his confrontational style, LePage is making a comeback, aiming to regain a position in public office. His Democratic opponent will emerge from a competitive primary featuring state Senator Joe Baldacci and progressive candidates Matt Dunlap, Jordan Wood, and Paige Loud.

The seat becomes available due to Democrat Jared Golden's decision to step down, despite his success in holding the district previously leaning Republican in presidential polls. Maine’s ranked-choice voting system might delay the final election results. (Editing by Michael Learmonth and Howard Goller)
