In a significant political shift, Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, a seasoned economist, as the nation’s new prime minister.

This decision was announced on Monday via a statement on the national broadcaster, RTS, and comes after the dismissal of Ousmane Sonko as prime minister, following increasing political tensions.

The move aims to stabilize the government and secure necessary reforms to maintain international financial support, notably from the International Monetary Fund, amid warnings from Sonko of potential opposition if policy deviations occurred.
