Israel and Lebanon Extend Ceasefire Talks: A Glimmer of Hope
Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire for 45 days following successful talks in Washington. The ceasefire, initially set to expire Sunday, was prolonged to facilitate ongoing peace negotiations aimed at ensuring lasting stability around their shared border and recognizing each other's sovereignty.
Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire for another 45 days after a series of productive discussions held in Washington, according to the US State Department. The extension comes as both nations aim for a more enduring peace along their shared borders.
The initial truce between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon was due to expire on Sunday. However, after two constructive days of negotiations, more talks are scheduled to take place on June 2-3.
In a social media statement, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott expressed hope that these negotiations would lead to full recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity by both nations, and the establishment of genuine security along the shared border.
