In a brazen attack, Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot at close range by unidentified gunmen in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, on Wednesday night, according to sources.
The incident unfolded in the Madhyamgram area, where Rath, serving as the executive assistant to the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, became the target of this brutal assault on a public road.
Sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Rath was swiftly taken to a private hospital. Prompt police intervention followed, with senior officers spearheading investigations to unearth the attackers and their motives, which remain unknown.
