Tamil Nadu's Record-Breaking Voter Turnout: A Close Look

The Election Commission of India reported a high voter turnout of 85.10% for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with over 4.8 crore votes cast. The Karur constituency achieved the highest turnout of 93.41%, while Killiyoor recorded the lowest at 71.26%. Votes will be counted on May 4.

In the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, the Election Commission of India announced a remarkable voter turnout of 85.10%, with a total of 4,87,98,833 votes cast. This crucial election saw participation from 2,52,59,596 female voters, 2,35,34,720 male voters, and 4,517 transgender voters.

Karur constituency stood out with an impressive 93.41% voter turnout, closely followed by Veerapandi in Salem district at 93.36%. On the other end of the spectrum, Killiyoor in Kanyakumari district registered the lowest participation at 71.26%. These figures highlight the engagement of Tamil Nadu's electorate despite the high stakes political landscape.

The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4 and will involve 62 designated counting centers across the state. The election witnessed a competitive scenario featuring the ruling DMK, the opposition AIADMK, and the nascent presence of actor Vijay's party, TVK.
