In a significant statement, Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat hinted that both the Shiv Sena and BJP might contest the 2029 Maharashtra assembly elections independently. Shirsat emphasized that neither party is bound by any agreement to contest together, pointing to past disputes over seat allocations.
The minister for Social Justice highlighted that both parties, which form part of the Mahayuti alliance, have the necessary strength to face the future challenges on their own. His statement received support from fellow Sena leader Uday Samant, who stated that each political party has the inherent right to expand and make independent strategic decisions.
Addressing the ministers' remarks, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis deferred detailed comments to Sena president Eknath Shinde and advised directing queries to the BJP spokesperson, reaffirming the autonomy of each party in electoral preparations.
