Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of Opposition in the Assam Assembly, officially entered the fray for the state elections, filing his nomination as the Congress candidate from Nazira constituency.
Saikia's bid for a fourth consecutive term is backed by a formidable six-party opposition alliance, including Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad, poised to challenge the decade-long rule of the BJP-led government.
Confident of reclaiming his family's stronghold, Saikia, accompanied by party president Gaurav Gogoi, hopes the opposition alliance will emerge victorious. The decisive vote counting will occur on May 4.
