In a significant political move, the late actor Vijayakanth's political party, DMDK, has joined the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The alliance was officialised at the DMK headquarters, in the presence of Chief Minister and party president M K Stalin.
This is the first time DMDK and DMK have formed an electoral alliance, ending weeks of speculation. DMDK had previously been courted by the opposition AIADMK, with BJP criticizing the shift as a betrayal of DMDK's founding principles.
Despite NDA's jibes, DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth expressed confidence in the collaboration, emphasizing the continuation of 'Dravidian model governance' aimed at Tamil Nadu's progress. The newly-formed alliance is expected to strengthen the DMK-led coalition's chances in the elections.
