The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a national coordination team tasked with overseeing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 13 states, amid rising tensions with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This strategic move comes after the Election Commission announced a second phase of revisions, prompting accusations from both parties regarding the treatment of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Led by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, the committee comprises seven members. In addition to the national team, 13 state-specific monitoring teams have been established, overseeing key regions including Assam, where the BJP has shown keen interest. These teams are responsible for meeting with BLOs, addressing any discrepancies, and ensuring a smooth revision process.

The coordination team's work is already underway; member Anirban Ganguly recently visited West Bengal's Nadia district to assess the revision efforts. He accused the TMC of 'mental harassment and intimidation' towards BLOs. Meanwhile, the Election Commission reports that over 99.43% of enumeration forms have been distributed, with Uttar Pradesh seeing the highest number, despite a lower digitisation rate.
