Jammu and Kashmir recently witnessed its Rajya Sabha elections for the first time since its reconstitution into a Union Territory, with the triumph of four noteworthy politicians. Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan of the National Conference, a seasoned leader and former minister, has been a prominent figure in the assembly since 1983, representing Kupwara's Handwara.
Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, also of the National Conference, hails from an influential political family in Kishtwar. Following his late father's legacy, he entered politics in 2002 with victories in the 2002 and 2008 polls. Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, distinguished as the first Sikh MP from the region, emerged as a strategic leader within the party, securing crucial support for the Rajya Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, BJP's Sat Sharma serves as a critical voice for the party in the region, currently presiding over the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit, marking his second tenure in this role. Although he experienced an electoral setback in 2024, Sharma's prior successes highlight his role in the political fabric of the Union Territory.
