A day after Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh was granted bail by the Guwahati High Court, party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the Assam government for allegedly targeting Singh to silence dissent. Ramesh highlighted procedural flaws in Singh's arrest, suggesting it was a deliberate tactic by the state government.

Ramesh expressed gratitude to Advocate KN Choudhary and his team for their legal defense of Singh, affirming the party's commitment to defending democracy and protecting citizens' fundamental rights. He emphasized ongoing efforts by the AICC Legal Department to challenge actions perceived as rights violations by the government.

The incident has heightened tensions between Congress and Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who accused Congress of justifying offensive comments. Sarma hinted at an upcoming revelation tying a senior Congress leader to ISI and Pakistan, intensifying the political feud. Singh's social media comments questioned legal actions against BJP affiliates, including ministers.
