Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma announced on Saturday the death of a notorious Naxal leader, Jagdish, in an encounter in Sukma district. Jagdish, linked to numerous violent incidents, had a bounty of Rs 25 lakh. His death marks a significant blow to the Naxal movement in the region.
The operation, conducted by security forces, led to the neutralization of 16 Naxalites and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, including AK-47s, SLRs, and INSAS rifles. Following the operation, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao emphasized the government's resolve, under Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to eradicate naxalism by 2026.
Sukma's Superintendent of Police, Kiran Chavan, confirmed the recovery of 16 bodies and detailed the injuries sustained by two personnel during the operation. The exchange of fire initiated after specific intelligence led to a joint mission by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), highlighting ongoing security challenges in the Bastar region.
