In a fervent display of dissent, hundreds of party workers marched across Tamil Nadu, voicing concerns about the BJP government's handling of MGNREGA wages. Chief Minister M K Stalin, leading the charge, accused the Centre of ignoring the plight of the rural workers and undermining the economy.
Stalin lambasted the government for its reluctance to release salaries under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, suggesting that the BJP showed antipathy towards both Gandhi and the program. He criticized the government for favoring corporations over the common rural workforce.
Protests took place at approximately 1,170 locations, with numerous women participating. They demanded the immediate release of Rs. 4,034 crore owed to MGNREGA workers. Placards questioned Prime Minister Modi on the unpaid wages while praising the Chief Minister's local initiatives.
