The Maharashtra government has rolled out a protocol for its various departments to rapidly address misinformation and misleading content concerning its operations. Under the directive of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, each department is tasked with promptly identifying and countering false news regarding governmental schemes or programs.
During the review meeting, it was noted that quick official responses to serious news can significantly bolster the public perception of the government. However, a lack of timely reaction has been observed. Consequently, departments are now required to issue clarifications within a 12-hour window for both print and electronic media.
The Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR)'s media response cell will alert concerned departments about misleading information, allowing for swift corrective measures. This initiative, announced during a cabinet meeting on February 2, 2025, aims to ensure that factual information is readily available and disseminated quickly, thus fostering a well-informed public.
