In a wave of unrest, Kathmandu was gripped by violent pro-monarchy protests on Friday, resulting in one casualty and numerous injuries. Amid the chaos, district authorities imposed a five-hour curfew and called out the army to restore order.
The protests, advocating for the monarchy's restoration, saw demonstrators clash with police, vandalize public and private properties, and loot local businesses. Authorities confirmed half of the injured were police personnel. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli convened an emergency cabinet meeting to address the situation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs condemned the violence, warning that organizers are responsible for any law violations. As tensions between pro-monarchy forces and republican supporters escalated, politicians urged restraint and underscored the importance of maintaining public order.
