Actor and emerging political leader Vijay has announced a significant challenge for Tamil Nadu's 2026 Assembly elections. He predicts a contest primarily between his Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Addressing a General Council meeting, Vijay criticized the DMK and the BJP-led Centre, targeting issues from dynasty politics to fiscal mismanagement. He demanded the withdrawal of the controversial Waqf Bill and opposed the delimitation exercise purportedly aimed at redistributing parliamentary seats unfavorably for the southern states.

Vijay promised reforms, focusing on women's safety, healthcare, education, and equitable resource distribution. He opposed detrimental projects like the Parandur airport and emphasized support for Tamil Nadu's working class. He also highlighted the Modi government's alleged financial neglect of Tamil Nadu despite hefty GST collections.
