West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee encountered unexpected protests at Oxford University's Kellogg College on Thursday, where she was delivering a speech on social development focusing on women and children in her state.
A group of protesters disrupted Banerjee's address, brandishing placards accusing her party of orchestrating election violence in 2023. The demonstrators, affiliated with the Students Federation of India (SFI), UK, repeatedly interrupted the speech, pointing to incidents like the R G Kar college rape case.
In response, Banerjee defended her administration's record, noting the return of Tata industries to regions like Kharagpur and Rajarhat. She rejected the protesters' claims as political noise and reminded them of her own experiences with violence, before continuing her speech and later taking audience questions.
