BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht is poised to ignite a contentious debate as he plans to introduce a resolution to rename the Mustafabad constituency to Shiv Vihar. This proposal is slated to be presented in the Delhi Assembly on Friday, aimed at reflecting the sentiments of a primarily Hindu electorate.
During the Delhi Assembly sessions, Bisht, who is also the deputy Speaker, emphasized the desires of the constituency's Hindu majority to change the name, citing emotional and cultural reasons. The suggestion, however, comes against a backdrop of communal unrest that claimed over 50 lives post-Assembly elections in February 2020.
Bisht's resolution is part of his broader political strategy, which saw him secure a decisive victory over AAP's Adeel Ahmad Khan with a margin of over 17,000 votes. This move adds another layer to the ongoing political dynamics in Delhi, where the BJP gained substantial ground in the latest polls, garnering 48 out of 70 seats.
