AAP Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha has voiced strong criticism against the government's tax policy, accusing it of imposing an onerous financial burden on citizens from birth to death. Chadha highlighted the wide array of taxes levied at every life stage and the insufficient services rendered in return.
In a passionate address to the Rajya Sabha, Chadha remarked that taxes influence citizens even before they take their first breath, citing how celebratory acts like distributing sweets at a child's birth incur taxes. He pointed out that children's everyday essentials, including toys and school supplies, are subjected to significant taxation.
Drawing attention to the financial struggles faced by different demographic groups, Chadha argued that taxes on pensions, medicines, and insurance disproportionately affect retirees. He accused the government of profiting from taxes comparable to those in developed nations while delivering services akin to those found in impoverished regions.
