Pro-monarchists in Nepal are gearing up to intensify their protests, announcing a major rally on Friday aimed at restoring the monarchy, a move that marks a direct challenge to the republic system established in 2008. Led by 87-year-old Navaraj Subedi, supporters seek to rally public support for former King Gyanendra.

Simultaneously, a counter-demonstration in favor of the republic system is being organized by a four-party alliance including the CPN-Maoist Centre and CPN-Unified Socialist. The demonstrations illustrate the deep divisions in the country regarding governance, prompting tightened security by Nepal police in Kathmandu.

Addressing these developments, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak reiterated the importance of democracy over autocracy, urging the public to avoid turning back to outdated systems despite any challenges democracy may face. He emphasized the commitment of the Nepali Congress to uphold democratic values and the country's Constitution.
