In Bhubaneswar on Thursday, tensions flared as a march by Congress supporters was met with resistance from police. The unrest arose when protesters demanded an investigation into alleged crimes against women following the BJP's rise to power last June.
The clash left 25 people injured, including 15 police officers, as demonstrators hurled stones and other objects after being blocked on Mahatma Gandhi Marg by law enforcement. Police retaliated with batons, tear gas, and water cannons to manage the escalating situation.
Congress leaders criticized the police's use of force, claiming it was excessive and unnecessary. Authorities, however, justified their response, citing the breach of prohibitory orders and violent behavior from the crowd. The situation remains under control with tight security in place, officials said.
