The INDIA bloc has officially communicated its concerns to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, spotlighting increasing disregard for parliamentary procedures and democratic standards by the current Bharatiya Janata Party government.

The bloc's MPs noted numerous troubling trends, calling for swift corrective measures to resolve pressing issues, including the unfilled Deputy Speaker post, restricted speaking opportunities for the Leader of Opposition, and alleged biased treatment of opposition members.

Highlighting specific grievances, the MPs criticized the absence of a Deputy Speaker since 2019, a contravention of the Constitution's Article 93 mandate. Additionally, they condemned the frequent denial of speaking rights to the LoP, breaking with long-standing parliamentary convention, alongside allegations of opposition MPs' microphones being switched off during debates.

The BJP government has also been accused of unilaterally making decisions in the House, such as introducing business without prior consultation with the Business Advisory Committee and issuing unscheduled statements. They cited the neglect and rejection of adjournment motions, critical for addressing urgent national matters, as further erosion of parliamentary integrity.

Finally, the bloc pointed to the manipulation of Sansad TV's camera angles, which allegedly exclude opposition leaders from the broadcast, as part of the broader attempt to mute dissent.

These concerns necessitate immediate intervention, underscoring the importance of restoring parliamentary fairness, transparency, and respect for established norms to preserve democratic integrity in India.
