On Thursday, tensions escalated in Uttar Pradesh as Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel, joined by nearly 200 supporters, was detained during a protest against an attack on Dalit Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman's residence. The uproar began after Suman's comments on Rajput king Rana Sanga sparked controversy.
Suman reportedly referred to Rana Sanga as a 'traitor' for allegedly inviting Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi in the 16th century, a statement that angered many, leading to an assault on his residence. The contentious remarks and resulting violence have drawn criticism from various quarters, including MLA Patel, who decried the incident as a severe blow to democracy and a distraction from critical issues.
In response, Patel called for stringent action, including charges under the National Security Act against the attackers and a ban on the Karni Sena, whom she accused of orchestrating the violence. Meanwhile, Suman remains resolute, refusing to retract his statement or apologize to the Karni Sena, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging historical narratives.
