In a charged address, Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha critiqued India's taxation system on Thursday, pointing out its pervasive presence from the cradle to the grave. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha called for an examination of the tangible benefits that citizens receive in return for their tax contributions.

"There are only two certainties in life: death and taxes," Chadha remarked, spotlighting the ubiquitous GST levied on various life stages, from birth vaccinations to funeral expenses. He noted the 5% GST on birthing-related services and goods, escalating to 18% on children's activities and beyond.

Chadha illustrated the march of taxation through life's phases, from schooling and smartphone purchases to higher education and working years, implying that the current tax system demands critical assessment about the returns it offers to everyday Indians.
