Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has strongly denounced the recent vandalism and stone throwing outside the residence of party MP Ramji Lal Suman in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district. Yadav accused the ruling BJP of nurturing division and leveraging historical narratives for political gain, suggesting the involvement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as the attack occurred during his presence in the district. Suman, a seasoned Dalit MP, was the target of an egregious act, Yadav noted.
The attack follows Suman's controversial remarks about 16th-century Rajput king Rana Sanga, whom he labeled as a 'traitor' for allegedly bringing Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. This statement has drawn widespread criticism and demands for an apology. BJP MP Jagadambika Pal slammed Suman, asserting that his comments hurt public sentiments, accusing the Samajwadi Party of inaction.
Amid the controversy, Samajwadi MLA Ranjeet Suman alleged that the attackers were affiliated with Karni Sena; however, police presence did little to deter the violence. Meanwhile, MP Dimple Yadav accused the government of orchestrating chaos as part of a broader pattern of instability in Uttar Pradesh. Ramji Lal Suman later clarified his statement, expressing no intent to offend and stressing the historical basis of his comment.
