The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is taking steps to address absenteeism among its MLAs during the recent Assembly budget session. The party plans disciplinary actions against those who defied a party whip mandating attendance on March 19 and 20.
According to party sources, the TMC's Disciplinary Committee needs a list from the Speaker's office to pinpoint lawmakers who were absent without requesting leave. Initially prepared to meet on March 29, the committee has shifted the meeting to accommodate Eid celebrations.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is currently in London, is expected to return by the week's end. Upon her arrival, the Disciplinary Committee, led by Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, is set to initiate actions against the absentee legislators, as clarified by senior party members.
