BJP MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat took a bold stand in the Assembly on Tuesday, demanding that the Akhnoor border belt in Jammu be granted district status. His insistence led to a protest, which interrupted the session and resulted in his removal from the House, as ordered by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
During the session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that there was no existing proposal to consider Akhnoor as a separate district, despite Bhagat urging an explanation for the delay. The lack of plans frustrated Bhagat, leading him to confront Abdullah directly.
As Bhagat moved toward the Well of the House, the situation grew tense, culminating in a protest that halted proceedings. In response, Speaker Rather directed security to escort Bhagat out, restoring order to the Assembly.
