Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai staunchly defended the National Education Policy (NEP) on Tuesday, underscoring its positive implications for the state. He announced a series of seven additional conferences to rally support for the NEP across Tamil Nadu. In a media briefing, Annamalai emphasized the NEP's flexibility regarding the third language option, marking a departure from previous policies that mandated Hindi.
"We inaugurated our first conference in support of NEP in Trichy on Sunday, with seven more planned across the state," Annamalai stated. He asserted the public's desire for a third language choice not imposed on them. Criticizing previous policies from 1968 and 1986 that made Hindi compulsory, Annamalai accused the Congress party of linguistic imposition. He challenged Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to review historical facts regarding educational policies.
On the political front, Annamalai declared the BJP's openness to alliances aimed at toppling the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, while remaining confident in the strength of the NDA coalition. Concurrently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with state parliamentarians pushing for fair parliamentary delimitation. Highlighting Tamil Nadu's proactive legislative efforts, Stalin seeks to influence national policy on parliamentary seat distribution without penalizing states with effective population control.
