Bangladesh is waiting for India's response to a proposal for a meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Md. Jashim Uddin, indicated that Bangladesh is prepared for the meeting and is hopeful for a positive reply from India.

The meeting seeks to ease tensions following Bangladesh's regime change on August 5, 2024, which saw Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's departure. Both Modi and Yunus are expected to be at the BIMSTEC Summit, with the meeting proposed to take place on the sidelines of the event.

Yunus is also planning a visit to China before heading to Bangkok. In Beijing, discussions are expected to include long-standing issues with President Xi Jinping, while agreements aiming at human resource development, economic cooperation, and military security are on the agenda.
