The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly approved demands for grants totaling Rs 231.53 crore for security-related expenditure (SRE) on Tuesday, introduced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The House passed these grants by a voice vote.
The grants comprised demand number two for Rs 162.21 crore for 2025-26 and supplementary grants for 2024-2025 amounting to Rs 69.32 crore. The Home Department's financial provisions passed without cut motions or discussion due to the Union Territory status.
Addressing the lack of debate, Abdullah said the grants were unavoidable for the Home Department, and their Union Territory status restricted open discussions, linking it to the Jammu and Kashmir GST Act, 2017.
