The National Conference-led government, in collaboration with the central administration, is pushing for the return of Kashmiri migrants, particularly Pandits, to their homes in the valley. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary highlighted these efforts on Tuesday, addressing legislative questions during an Assembly session.
Choudhary, drawing from personal familial experience of migration during the 1947 partition, assured lawmakers of the government's commitment to the displaced populations. "Pain fills the hearts of National Conference leaders and the people of J&K over the plight of Kashmiri Pandits who left in the 1990s," he emphasized.
In response to a plea by CPI(M) legislator M Y Tarigami, Choudhary noted that both local and central governments have initiated schemes for the rehabilitation of these communities. Concerns were also raised about providing fair employment opportunities and relief measures to non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits and other displaced groups.
