Congress leader Husain Dalwai has launched a scathing critique against the Maharashtra government for allegedly importing Uttar Pradesh-style politics following its use of bulldozers against individuals accused of violence in Nagpur. Dalwai highlighted previous court decisions stating that notice must be given for unauthorized constructions, cautioning against bypassing legal frameworks.
The uproar comes in the wake of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment squad demolishing illegal structures belonging to Yusuf Sheikh and Faheem Khan, implicated in the March 17 riots. The violence stemmed from clashes demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's grave, with stone-pelting incidents marking the unrest.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed that 92 arrests had been made related to the disturbances, fanned by social media speculations of a desecrated holy item. Fadnavis emphasized financial restitution from rioters and did not rule out further demolition tactics if deemed necessary.
