In a landmark move, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday introduced the 2025-26 Budget for the national capital, pegged at Rs. 1 lakh crore. Gupta described the budget as a transformation blueprint aimed at steering Delhi towards economic revival and prosperity, dubbing it "historic."
The budget, a 31.5% increase from the previous year, allocates Rs 5,100 crore for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, along with a proposed Rs 28,000 crore for capital expenditures to improve infrastructure, particularly connectivity with the NCR region, which receives Rs 1,000 crore.
Gupta criticized the legacy of the previous administration, citing financial mismanagement as a key issue, with funds allegedly siphoned off by the liquor mafia and contractors. She vowed to rectify these missteps, highlighting intentions to clean up Delhi's image and enhance efficiency.
As part of efforts to improve citizen welfare, Gupta mentioned imminent benefits from Ayushman Yojana and the installation of over 50,000 cameras for women's safety. The session bears critical importance given its context in BJP's prolonged absence from Delhi's political leadership.
