Delhi's First BJP-Led Budget in 26 Years: Key Highlights and Controversies Unfold

The BJP-led Delhi government is poised to unveil the Budget 2025-26, marking the first such presentation in 26 years. This significant event follows the BJP's recent historic win in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, returning to power after nearly three decades.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who doubles as the Finance Minister, will deliver the much-anticipated budget today. Prior to the presentation, CM Gupta will make a ceremonial visit to the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place. The Cabinet meeting, traditionally held at the Assembly under former CM Arvind Kejriwal, is scheduled to convene at the Delhi Secretariat.

The Budget Session is set to address critical financial and policy issues, highlighting recent findings from a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. The report, presented by CM Gupta, criticized the previous AAP government's mismanagement of the Delhi Transport Corporation, revealing financial losses and inefficiencies. BJP MLA Harish Khurana echoed these concerns, accusing the AAP of exacerbating DTC's decline. The Assembly is expected to discuss these matters extensively during the session, which runs from March 24-28, 2025, with possible extensions.
