In a significant revelation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that the first rupture between BJP and the then-undivided Shiv Sena occurred in 2014. The disagreement arose over assembly seat distribution, with Shiv Sena demanding 151 seats against BJP's offer of 147.
Fadnavis made these remarks during an event on Monday night to honor Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, who managed BJP's Maharashtra campaign in 2014. The BJP leader detailed his discussions with senior party figures, including Amit Shah, asserting that decision-making dynamics at the time pushed for contesting elections separately.
Responding to these comments, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut accused senior BJP leaders of premeditated plans to sever ties. Despite the rift, both parties would later form a government following the 2014 polls. However, internal disputes continued impacting Maharashtra's political landscape, leading to further splits in recent years.
