The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is taking a hard stand against its own lawmakers who are frequently absent from West Bengal Assembly sessions, despite official whips mandating attendance. Party leaders reveal the Legislative Disciplinary Committee has called upon several MLAs to account for their absences later this week.
State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay led a Monday review meeting focusing on assembly attendance. Importance is placed on register sign-ins for ministers and MLAs, currently under review to quantify unexplained absentees.
Chattopadhyay noted that while some MLAs had informed the party of valid reasons for missing sessions, others did not. In response, the TMC plans to enforce strict actions to uphold discipline, following absenteeism during key days of the budget session when even Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present.
