In a bid to shape the future of TikTok in the United States, three Democratic senators have urged the White House to pursue congressional approval for extending the deadline concerning ByteDance's sale of the app. This move comes after President Donald Trump extended the initial deadline for the sale from January to April without legislative backing.
Senators Ed Markey, Chris Van Hollen, and Cory Booker expressed concern over the legality of the previous extension. In their appeal to the president, they emphasized the need for a lawful resolution through Capitol Hill to ensure transparency and accountability in determining TikTok's operations within the country.
The senators argue that such a significant decision regarding TikTok's ownership and operation in the U.S. should not be made unilaterally. Instead, they advocate for a collaborative approach involving Congress, which holds the power and responsibility to enact relevant legislation.
