Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav reinforced his backing for a comprehensive caste census and reservations for backward classes and Dalits, clarifying that such measures should not be religiously oriented. His comments underline the need to rectify historical injustices faced by marginalized communities.
Addressing the media, Yadav stated, "We advocate for a caste census and reservations for disadvantaged and marginalized sections of society. A caste census is essential for unraveling these issues; hence, its realization faces delays. Religious-based reservations do not exist," he added, responding to queries about Muslim reservations.
Yadav's stance aligns with broader political debates on social justice and affirmative action. Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing a caste census as revealing India's true socio-economic landscape. In parallel, Rahul Gandhi, Opposition Leader, has also called for such a census, referencing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's enduring quest for caste equality.
