Savukku Shankar, a well-known critic of Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK and popular Youtuber, found himself at the center of a political storm after his residence was attacked by individuals allegedly attempting to intimidate him. On Monday, a group reportedly dumped sewage and human waste inside his home, an act that has drawn widespread condemnation from various political leaders in the region.
Spearheaded by AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP state president K. Annamalai, top leaders across the political spectrum, including VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan and MDMK's Vaiko, criticized the incident and called for swift action against the perpetrators. They warned that failing to act could tarnish the image of the DMK government, urging law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
Shankar accused the police of inaction, claiming that the attack was connected to his previous exposure of alleged corruption involving Tamil Nadu Congress Committee leaders in government schemes. He alleged that threats have intensified, pressuring him to stop his work. This incident highlighted the vulnerability faced by independent media voices in contentious political climates.
