The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Yashwant Varma's transfer from the Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court, sparking significant debate. The decision, made during meetings on March 20 and 24, 2025, has been outlined in a formal resolution.
Controversy surrounds Justice Varma after allegations surfaced regarding the discovery of cash at his residence. A fire incident at his home reportedly led to the money's recovery by firefighters on March 14. Justice Varma was absent at that time.
Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, has set up a committee of High Court judges to investigate these claims. Until the inquiry concludes, the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court has been instructed not to allocate any cases to Justice Varma. Responding to the allegations, Justice Varma refutes the claims, describing them as a conspiracy to defame him.
