The ongoing controversy involving Delhi High Court's Justice Yashwant Varma has taken a dramatic turn as the Allahabad High Court Bar Association made a strong appeal to the Chief Justice of India (CJI). On Monday, they urged the CJI to reconsider the proposed transfer of Justice Varma, emphasizing that no court should serve as a 'dumping ground' for contentious assignments.
Anil Tiwari, President of the Allahabad HC Bar Association, in a statement to ANI, called for a meticulous review of all judgments delivered by Justice Varma to reaffirm public faith in the judiciary. He insisted that Justice Varma should remain within Delhi's jurisdiction and under Supreme Court scrutiny until the related legal proceedings reach a conclusion.
The controversy sharpened after a fire incident at Justice Varma's residence, dated March 14, 2025, which unveiled an unexpected trove of cash, sparking suspicions and severe allegations. Despite Justice Varma's denial and claims of conspiracy, the matter has grown into a significant point of concern, pressing legal bodies for transparency and accountability.
