The Election Commission declared on Monday that the biennial elections for a Telangana Legislative Council seat will occur on April 23. The voting is designated for the Hyderabad Local Authorities MLC Constituency due to the soon-to-expire term of Bharat Rashtra Samithi's (BRS) MLC MS Prabhakar on May 1. Nomination submissions close on April 4, with scrutiny set for April 7.
Vote counting will commence on April 25, as the Election Commission enforces the Model Code of Conduct in the constituency. This announcement coincides with a political upheaval, sparked by Bharat Rashtra Samithi, led by MLC K Kavitha, who criticized the Telangana government's Rs 1.5 lakh crore loan intake over the past 15 months.
Kavitha charged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy with public deception regarding the state's loan management, insisting on a white paper concerning the Rs 1.58 lakh crore loans he claimed to repay previous administration debts. Kavitha asserts these statements are inaccurate and demands transparency through public budget documents.
