An allegation that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar disrespected the national anthem sparked a heated discussion in the state legislative council on Monday. The issue was brought forth by RJD's Sunil Kumar Singh, who demanded a special debate on the matter.
The council's chairman, Awadhesh Narain Singh, dismissed the request, accusing the RJD MLC of tarnishing Bihar's reputation as the state progresses. The RJD legislator, expelled previously for misbehavior with the CM but reinstated by a Supreme Court order, argued that the CM's actions had already brought disrepute to the state.
Nitish Kumar, who leads JD(U) and holds the record as the longest-serving CM of Bihar, faces criticism for allegedly waving and smiling during a recent public event while the national anthem played. Opposition parties argue the incident suggests deteriorating mental health, questioning his capability to lead.
