Tamil Nadu's Pivotal Budget Amidst Political Tension

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is set to present the crucial 2025-26 Budget amidst a charged political climate. The government is focusing on social sector spending as Tamil Nadu faces upcoming Assembly elections. The opposition is targeting issues like law and order and increasing debts.

In the midst of a politically volatile atmosphere, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is preparing to present the 2025-26 Budget on Friday. This marks his second Budget presentation since assuming the finance portfolio in May 2023, with significant announcements anticipated, particularly in the social sector.

The current DMK government, gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections, is likely to underscore its increased spending in social sectors. Meanwhile, opposition parties such as the AIADMK and BJP are expected to challenge the government on deteriorating law and order and escalating state debts.

Ahead of the State Budget, the government has introduced a new Tamil currency symbol. The Greater Chennai Corporation will stream the live telecast of the Budget presentation at key city locations, starting at 9.30 am, followed by the Agriculture Budget.
