At an upcoming G7 summit in Canada, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that potential U.S. annexation of Canada is not on the agenda, despite provocative comments by President Trump. Instead, the meeting will focus on cooperation among key democratic nations including defense and economic issues.

Rubio diverted questions about Trump's suggestion of making Canada a U.S. state, emphasizing collaborative efforts between the two nations on North American airspace defense and global issues like Ukraine. He clarified, 'That's what the meeting is about. It is not a meeting about how we're going to take over Canada.'

Relations between the U.S. and Canada remain strained with trade disputes at the forefront. Trump's administration has imposed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, citing national security concerns and Canada's role in fentanyl trafficking. Rubio, however, remains optimistic about constructive talks with G7 allies.
